abstract

the purpose of this study is measuring total factor productivity (tfp) growth of sugar beet for different provinces of iran and then decomposing it to the changes in technical change, managerial efficiency change and scale efficiency change. for this purpose we used the data envelopment analysis (dea) method and malmquist productivity index. results showed that average growth of total factor productivity of sugar beet in country level has been 47 percent during 2000-2007. on the other hand, comparisons between provinces indicate negative tfp growth for ghazvin, markazi and hamedan provinces.  negative growth of productivity in these provinces is often due to managerial technical inefficiency. so, this study proposes that these three provinces, could improve their tfp growth by following successful provinces. jel classification: d24, o4.

analysis of total factor productivity growth of sugar beet in iran using malmquist approach

in this study, total factor productivity(tfp) growth of sugar beet in iran during 1989-1990 through 2007-2008 was analyzed, using nonparametric malmquist approach. so, amounts of inputs usage including seeds, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, labor, water use and acreage in one hand and output of sugar beet production on the hand were taken into account. results showed that sugar beet prod...

Decomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran

The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...

Assessment of water productivity and supply:demand ratio index in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) in Khorasan Razavi province, Iran using growth simulation models

The rapid population growth and the need for more agricultural production necessitate more attention to water shortage and enhancing water productivity. To assess water productivity and supply:demand ratio index in sugar beet, this experiment was carried out using SUCROS growth simulation model. Long-term climatic data and collecting questionnaires from farmers were used to assessing water prod...

Measuring productivity of production factors in broiler breeding industry using fuzzy regression

To calculate partial and total productivity of production factors in broiler farms in Yazd province, 72 manufacturing units were selected based on simple random sampling method and their information and statistics were collected for one production period in the second half of 2013. To measure productivity, the Cobb-Douglas production function was estimated using classic and fuzzy regression met...
